By twisting the bezel, the focus can be smoothly adjusted between being a highly focussed spotlight and a more diffuse floodlight. Furthermore, this button glows red when battery capacity drops below 20%. A quick press of this button toggles between the torch being at 100% brightness and being off. The on/off switch is located at the base of the torch. There is no comparison between this LED torch and my earlier Maglites with conventional bulbs: the latter seem feeble in comparison. This torch was purchased to replace a couple of ageing Maglites. She is not worried about burning herself with a hot flashlight, if it should accidentally turn on in her pocket anymore! She put a lanyard on the hole in the pocket clip, and it now rides comfortably on her purse or in her pocket. It fit every need she had, and some she hadn't anticipated. In addition, I must say that my partner was pleased beyond words with the original flashlight. Bravo to the seller for such responsiveness. I now have no complaints whatsoever with the value of this product at this time, and have adjusted my review accordingly, adding the fifth star. It would appear the seller read this review, and fixed a couple of the issues I had! The second I received came with the retail box in an additional bag, providing some extra protection, and contained a very nice color flyer, with the features and instructions in much larger type. I ordered a second light, after gifting the original to my partner for her birthday. UPDATE: I said I would come back and add more information, and I am. A better box, or some padding, would have prevented that, and I could give this one as a gift. The only things that kept this light from having a 5-star rating were the tiny instructions on the box instead of even a slip of paper with more easily-read directions, and bad packaging that left it loose in the envelope, allowing it to get scratched easily in shipping. Only time will tell as to whether it lives up to that impression. I don't know that I'll ever need the SOS feature, but as a ham radio operator, I can't fault having it! The other features, though, are perfect, just what I was looking for, and the construction appears solid and durable. It has a number of good features you would see in a flashlight 4X the price. It is a piece of quality workmanship for a good price. If I find a problem, I will come back and add more information. I haven't had it long enough to test battery life, but with an LED, it should be reasonable.

It fits in the hand comfortably, isn't too bulky, and doesn't get too hot, even when at full brightness for a while. The light comes with a pocket clip and a nice, strong magnetic base around the power button, a very nice touch.
All of the modes work perfectly, and the lens head rotates to zoom the beam from a wide angle spread to a tight, somewhat squarish spot. I had to illuminate the box with the light and squint to read the instructions. Also, Amazon had thoughtfully put a sticker right on the instructions.
The instructions are on the retail box, and the print is TINY. I don't expect them to last long, they're probably cheap OEM alkalines, but they're enough to fiddle with it bit. It came with batteries installed, a nice touch. I would have given the box an overwrap of bubble-wrap, if I were packing it, just in case - it arrived with a couple of small scratches on the strike bezel, but nothing really wrong with the light itself. The retail box had squeezed open, so the flashlight was loose in the envelope. The packaging was a little slight, just the retail box in a padded shipping envelope. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived, and got a chance to play with it. I thought for sure this was going to be some piece of cheap junk when I got it, so I didn't have my hopes up very high, and just ordered one. Aluminum body, runs on AAA batteries, including rechargeable ones (I have rechargeable nickel metal-hydride cells just waiting to be used!), a defensive strobe, an SOS mode, three light levels, AND a beam focus feature. In particular, I was looking for a flashlight with a defensive strobe, and when I saw this one, my interest was piqued. No new features, all you get is those two things fixed - good but things have improved a lot in flashlight tech since that flashlight came out. There's an LED conversion head for it, but it's almost as expensive as a whole new flashlight, and it's only light on/light off. I've owned a Surefire E2D tactical flashlight since they first came out, and have been generally happy with the product except for two things: it uses a special halogen bulb with a fairly short lifespan, and it eats those CR123 lithium batteries like candy.
